Free-loan access regulations
Item types and loan periods
Free-loan access lets you sign out a maximum of 4 items (books only) as follows:
|Item type||Loan period|
Each item may be renewed five times unless another user has placed a hold on it. Members may renew items via their online account, which can be accessed through the library catalogue. To do so, they must first visit the circulation desk to activate their password.
|Item type||Fine per day per item||Maximum fine|
You will receive a courtesy notice by email three days before the due date. If the item is not returned or renewed by this date, you will receive a late notice. After four late notices, i.e., 40 days late, the item will be declared lost and you will receive a bill including the item replacement cost, a $20 late fee, a $25 processing fee and a $10 administrative fee.
Damage or loss
In the event of a damaged or lost item, you may purchase the same title in a bookstore and provide it to the library. In this case, you will be charged the late fee only.
If you are unable to acquire an item identical to the one that was lost, you must pay the item replacement cost or a minimum of $40 (if the cost is below $40), the $25 processing fee, the $10 administrative fee, and the late fee.
When a lost book is found and returned, the Service des bibliothèques et archives reimburses the cost of the book and the $25 processing fee. The late fee and the administrative fee are not reimbursed.
Items can be returned during operating hours at the libraries’ circulation desks. A return slot is available by the entrance of each library. When library buildings are closed, materials can be dropped off in the return slot located in front of the main entrance of the Georges-Cabana building.
For UdeS library locations and operating hours, visit the website of the Service des bibliothèques et archives de l'Université de Sherbrooke.
